Lithograph, signed (lower right), 18cm x 23cm (plate size), (35cm x 40cm framed).
Copley holds the unusual record of being the oldest person to ever have been awarded an Olympic medal. At the summer Olympics in London in 1948, he won a silver medal for Painting and Engraving, aged 73. This was the last Olympics to include an art competition. Very successful as an artist in his lifetime, during WWII, he was an official war artist. Influenced by Ford Madox Brown, h became interested in lithography in 1906 and initially worked in colour before exclusively working in black and white for most of his career.
