Wendt was a pianist, photographer, filmmaker and critic from Sri Lanka. He was the leader of ‘43 Group, a collective of Sri Lankan artists. In the early 1930s, he turned to what became his great passion, photography. Wendt's photographs bear witness to the culture of his country. While the male body is his favourite theme, he also photographed landscapes, everyday life, architecture, archaeology. His work was influenced by the artistic styles of the period, but retained his desire to represent traditional Ceylonese life.
